Hi all,] I got off work at about 11:45 pm and as I was pulling into the drive way I saw Orion just hanging in space. I was an exceptional clear night for my light polluted yard. Got dressed for the weather and got out the scope. I zeroed in on the top star of the sword and never saw such bright and twinkle free stars. Noted two doubles in the fov. Blue/white in color. Moved on to M 42 and had my breath taken away by the clarity of the nebula. So  much larger that previous views. At 50x the trapizium was small but clearly seen. All four stars were seperated nicely. Very bright and again blue/white in color. The nebulosity was clear and the raggedness of the edges were clearly seen. Three stars in a row diagnally under the trapizium outlined the edge of a dust lane. I'm not sure if my eyes were trying to decieve me but the area of the dark cloud appeared darker than the space around it. Zoomed in to 150x and the dust lane cut into the nubulosity and formed a clear hook in the bright cloud. Whisps of nebulosity were seen trailing off towards the bottom of fov. What an awesome view.  Tried M35 but it was to high up to view without contortionist configurations on my part so I'll save that for tomorrow night. Back outside for some more of M42 ta ta, charlie.

Hi, Charlie -         A report made with the keen eye of an experienced observor.  Now, I remember what I forgot in my report.  The double stars.  Thanks for an enjoyable report. Happy viewing, Don S
