Well today i sat my self in front of the tv surrounded by a mega drive, sega saturn dreamcast and a ps2. I haven`t had my megadrive out in a while and decided to see what the orignal sonics were like compared to todays. My verdicts the originals are better and tougher. Of course sonic on the dreamcast is 3d and looks fabulous but this works against it as the levels feel like your on rails just going forward where the megadrive levels feel they have more depth. As for starters there are multiple platforms and levels to jump around on, and there is more emphesis on killing enemies where on sonic 2 on DC is just hit the zippers and keep forward. Also i find the originals far more challenging as there is more platform jumping meaning you can easly make more mistakes. I still think SA2 is brill but it still can`t quite match the gameplay of sonic 1 and 2. Another game i tried was NHL 95 on megadrive, in my opinion no hockey games avilalble to this day can match the EA sports ones on the megadrive. Why, cause of the simplisity of it, there are no dodgy camera problems and it`s a 3 simple button combanation which somehow expanded as it went next-gen. Looking back on things, developers back then didn`t need to produce fantastic graphics to sells games, it was the gameplay that sold the games, where today seeing that videogaming has gone mainstream, that a few developers think lets make the game look fancy and that should be enough to sell it on to the average person. This is the soul reason why i stick with sega consoles as they give you the both of best worlds. Fantastic gameplay along great graphics and sega rarely bring out a bad _title_. It`s a shame the general public couldn`t see past playstation to see that Sega had more to offer than them. Playstation ain`t a bad console buy anymeans but it was the point in videogaming which allowed the market to overflow with crap _title_s and started of the whole piracy scene. It just makes you think that if the Saturns price was a whole lot cheaper at launch and the hardware abit better to code for, would sega still be the leader in the market today, in my opinion yes they would. As for the saturn it had some quality games i really enjoyed, sega rally the awesome virtua fighter 2 panzer dragoon series, haven`t played panzer dragoon saga yet (unless i want to pay £100 for it) Nights and many more. But Mr general public just egnored these quality _title_s and thought, lets get a PS like my friend has. To finish of in my opinion you ain`t going to get next generation gaming from todays machines like the PS2 and gamecube, with these machines you are going to get next generation graphics, with some games (mainly on gamecube) that have excellent gameplay. Overall if you take a megadrive down to a friends with a copy of sensible soccer, sonic along with many other games you are gonna be at it all night, cause the graphics won`t come into play as the gameplay will have you hooked all night long. All i need now is a copy of snatcher on Mega cd for my gaming needs to be complete. Please i would like to here your opinions of games over the past 10 years to Thanks for reading hodge
