scifi films Intelligent Sci-Fi (Summary)
|

|
Intelligent Science Fiction List of films identified (most as good, some less so) thus far: <snip list That's a pretty solid essential sci-fi list regardless of their relative quality. Even the bad ones on that list are must-see just for pop culture and nostalgia value. It spills over into other genres as well, which is a good sign. Gregg

X-Files Zardoz You left out Star Trek: The Motion Picture and PI, which were also mentioned. Now maybe we should tighten the list by pruning out the obvious: Brazil Capricorn One Crash Demon Seed Escape from L.A. Escape from New York Scanners Starship Troopers They Live The Thing Video Drome Westworld

Escape from L.A. Escape from New York I'd still argue that Escape from New York deserves a place, though I'd agree that ...LA doesn't. If Star Trek: The Motion Picture is forwarded, I'd also suggest The Wrath of Khan. I felt that this was the final point before Trek began to get dumbed down. Some of the ideas - genetic modification, brain washing, terraforming worked well, and the finale was, IMHO gripping.

Now maybe we should tighten the list by pruning out the obvious: Brazil Capricorn One Crash Demon Seed Escape from L.A. Escape from New York Scanners Starship Troopers They Live The Thing Video Drome Westworld Well, it's alright if you yourself aren't a fan of these films, but Brazil and Crash are at least critically regarded, and I happen to enjoy Escape from New York, Scanners, and Starship Troopers quite a bit. To each their own! Let people do the pruning on their own. - Dave
