IF this is true, I have to hand it to Mr. Nicenza. (sp?) He has put all of his eggs in the X-Basket, and for him to try to depose the editor of the X-_title_s...Well, that took some chutzpah. Actually, rumor has it that Tom Defalco EiC of Marvel, was threatening to quit (we should be so lucky) and that both BoB and Fabes were bucking for the job. DeFalco screwed everybody up by staying on. I'd ask Marie Javins to comment, but she'd say something like read the papers and someone would take it wrong and she'd get stuck in another flame war instead of saying useful stuff. Hmm, maybe I can badger Sy into talking.... Joe

The alternative mutantverse is basically a reason for the x-writers to fuck about with their characters without affecting the X-Continuity (read X-Men cartoon series and the toyline) There are possibilities that all these X-books will be kept on once the regular X-books return, but Warren Ellis has said that he will resign if Marvel do that. This Alpha-hour is a joke. IF Marvel is going to do this, it should wither be within the normal books, with the normal _title_s & numbering, with ramifications outside of the particular story arc. Otherwise, it should be done *completely* outside of continuity. (read: What-If, Elseworlds, etc.) See, I fear that once they do this, and it's successful (and it will be), they'll start pulling this stunt at the drop of a hat. Witness the death of Phoenix...now it's hard to find a Marvel comic where one of the characters hasn't died & come back w/in the last couple years. (DC is worse at this one, tho. All of its major classic characters have died recently, at least _meta_phorically. Ah, but that's grist for another mill.) It appears to me that Marvel is doing anything and everything to wipe out the work that Claremont did during his (15 yr?) run. I can understand the need for a Zero-Hour more at DC, where a combination of bad editing and buy-outs of competitors caused their universe to become really messed-up. (I didn't like Crisis or 0-hr there, either, tho.) The X-Books are far from that situation. However convoluted _Claremont's_ danglers were, they are still solvable within the basic _frame_work of the book. (BTW, I'm convinced that 75% of Claremont's problems late in his run were editor-imposed

Actually, I'd love to comment, but until later today the real info is very hush-hush. I'm sure I'm not supposed to know, but these things have a way of slipping out. Let's just say, the rumors are inaccurate, none of it involves Fabian...but changes are afoot and they're not entirely off-_base_. I'm just wondering who my boss will be.... P.S. Tom's not leaving. ..... :o Dare we hope, folks??? Please, please, let us know more as soon as you can! Joe

I said: P.S. Tom's not leaving. Oops. Well, he wasn't asked to leave, anyway. And at the risk of everyone screeching at me, I think a lot of you are giving Bob a bad rap.... (Trying real hard not to screech) Are we? Since he became group editor, the books have gone down hill. Fast. Hard. There's been a major emphasis on merchadising and fight stories, and long time readers like a lot of us have been ignored. If he's not to blame, who is? If he's not responsible for the (lack of) quality in the stories, who is? I mean, if we can pick out continuity errors without looking to the backissues, why can't the person who's PAID to do that do it? I will allow that I may be wrong. But I don't see who else the problem could be. If you know, please tell us. Joe
